Wrestling Takes on Newberry to Conclude Regular Season Action

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College wrestling team will conclude regular season action when they host No. 16 Newberry College tomorrow (Feb. 13) evening in the DeLoach Center. Wrestling is set to begin at 7 p.m. Live stats and video can be found at www.cokercobras.com.

The Cobras head into the matchup with a 3-8 overall record with one wrestler ranked within Super Region Two. Robert Parland checks in at seventh in the latest Super Region Two rankings in the 197 pound weight class.

The Coker 197 pounder leads the Cobras in victories with 11 and compiled an impressive 5-0 record during the month of January. Two of his five victories in the month of January came against ranked opponents in the Super Region Two.

Parland first took out the seventh ranked 285 pounder Bret Winters by an 8-5 decision in Coker's dual meet against Shorter. Next, Parland defeated the eighth ranked 197 pounder Chancellor Sonnenberg from Findlay with a comfortable 9-2 decision.

No. 16 Newberry enters tomorrow's match with an 11-9 overall record that includes a 3-1 mark in ECAC duals. The Wolves have six wrestlers ranked in the Super Region Two and three wrestlers ranked in the nation within their respective weight classes.

Wresters ranked in the Super Region Two for Newberry include Trung Duong (125, 2nd), Jordan Simpson (133, 3rd), Tyler Wicken (141, 5th), Austin Palmer (149 7th), Alex Rice (157, 7th), and Huston Evans (174, 4th). Duong (7th), Simpson (8th), and Evans (6th) are ranked nationally for Newberry.

Tickets for the match are $5 for adults, $3 for students and free to all Coker faculty, staff and students.
