Cobra Wrestling Ranked No. 4 in Super Region II Poll; Six Wrestlers Ranked Individually

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker Cobra wrestling team moved to No. 4 in Super Region Two rankings according to the latest coaches poll released on Monday (Jan. 26). The Cobras have six wrestlers ranked in the top six in their individual weight classes as well.

Sophomores Mikel Nelson and Kevin Thompson lead the way for the Cobras. Both wrestlers are ranked No. 2 in their respective weight classes.

Nelson joins the rankings for the first time this season at the 125-pound weight class. He is 4-2 on the year including a victory over regionally ranked No. 3 Patrick Mestrez from Belmont Abbey on Jan. 17.

Thompson jumps up to No. 2 in the 141-pound weight class. He is 19-3 on the year with eight pins.

Freshman Luis Peguero is ranked No. 5 in the 184-pound weight class with a record of 18-6.

Rounding out the individual rankings for the Cobras are Rashad Cunningham, Robert Parland and Alex Green, all three are ranked No. 6 in their respective weight classes.

Cunningham is sixth in the 149-pound weight class with a record of 15-6, Parland is sixth in the 197-pound weight class with a record of 20-5 and Green is sixth in the 285-pound weight class with a record of 7-5.

The Cobras will return to action on Saturday (Jan. 31) and Sunday (Feb. 1) at the Super Region Duals hosted by Tiffin (Ohio) University.  Coker will take the mat for six dual matches during the two-day event.
