HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker Cobra wrestling team moved up to No. 3 in Super Region Two rankings according to the latest coaches poll released on Tuesday (Jan. 13). The Cobras have seven wrestlers ranked in the top six in their individual weight classes.
Sophomore Kevin Thompson and freshman Luis Peguero received the highest individual rankings for the Cobras. Both wrestlers are ranked No. 3.
Thompson is ranked No. 3 at the 141-pound weight class with a record of 13-2 this season, while Peguero is ranked No. 3 at the 184-pound weight class with a record of 17-5.
Senior Travis Laxton is ranked No. 4 in the 125-pound with a record of 16-4 this season.
Picking up a No. 5 ranking is junior Derek Rothermel at the 157-pound weight class with a record of 16-3, while junior Rashad Cunningham, sophomore Robert Parland and senior Alex Green are each ranked No. 6 in their respective weight classes.
Cunningham is ranked in the 149-pound weight class with a record of 11-6, Parland is ranked in the 197-pound division with a record of 15-4 and Green is ranked at heavyweight with a record of 7-5.
The Cobras return to action on Saturday (Jan. 17) in a dual match at Belmont Abbey. The match is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
