Huff Takes One of Three at NCAA Championships

CLEVELAND, OH. – Junior Charlie Huff won 1-of-3 matches on the first day of the 2014 NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships.

In his first session of the day, Huff lost a tough 7-0 decision to Daniel DeShazer (15-1) of Nebraska-Kearney and was placed in the bounce back bracket.

Huff was then matched up against Kody Young (21-9) of Mercyhurst.  The wrestlers battled to a 2-2 tie at the end of regulation, to force overtime.  In a must win situation, Huff was able to gain control with a take down, and win 4-2 in sudden victory.

In his third and final session of the day, Huff was matched up against Evan Yenolevich (14-2) of Kutztown.  The score was locked in at 0-0 after the first three minutes, as the two wrestlers clashed in an even match.  Eventually Yenolevich would be awarded one point for an escape, which would ultimately provide him with a 1-0 win over Huff as neither wrestler could tally any more points.

With the loss, Huff's season comes to an end.  The junior finished his 2014 campaign as the first Cobra to ever qualify for nationals in their inaugural season.  Huff totaled 25 wins on the year with only 15 losses.
