Huff, Parland and Akins Advance to Day Two of NCAA Super Regional

TIFFIN, OH. – Charlie Huff, Robert Parland, and Austin Akins have all advanced to day two of the 2014 NCAA Super Regional Championship after winning two matches each during day one.  As a team, the Cobras are currently in 14th pace.

Huff got off to a slow start at 133, but then bounced back and won his final two matches of the day to advance to day two.  Parland would follow the same pattern after losing his first at 197, but then win by a 7-2 and 3-2 decision to end the day.  Akins would fall in his first round as well at 285, but then receive a bye after a forefeit in match two.  Akins would then capitalize by winning a tight 3-1 decision, and advancing to day two.

The Cobras struggled in the early weight division as Gavin Perkins fell in his first and second matches at 125. Rashad Cunningham (141), Kevin Thompson (149), Philip Burrows (165), Zach Dicus (174) and Shane Carpenter (184) all lost their first melee of the day, but then would bounce back and win the second.  Unfortunately, all would be later eliminated after losing their third and final quarrel of the day.  JD Dykes suffered an injury in his first round at 157, and was forced to take a medical forfeit at the 157-weight class.

Huff will start the Saturday (Mar. 1) against Joseph Her of Wisconsin-Parkside.  Parland will faceoff against Davien Willis of Wisconsin-Parkside, while Akins squares off against Matt Wade of Newberry.
