TIFFIN, OHIO – The Coker wrestling team will be participating in the 2014 NCAA Division II Midwest Super Regional Championships this Friday (Feb. 28) and Saturday (Mar. 1).
Representing the Cobras will be Gavin Perkins (125), Charlie Huff (133), Rashad Cunningham (141), Kevin Thompson (149), JD Dykes (157), Phillip Burrows (165), Zach Dicus (174), Shane Carpenter (184), Robert Partland (197), and Austin Akins (285).
Perkins sits at 13-10 on the year and will faceoff first for the Cobras against Brandon Oshiro of Maryville (15-13) in the first round. Thompson is currently 22-11 on the year and landed the sixth seed of the tournament. He will take on Tyler Cross (13-14) of Alderson-Broaddus. Dykes will then step on the mat against Zach Noel of Wisconsin-Parkside, followed by Dicus who will take on SAC rival Joe Pittman of Newberry. Carpenter will matchup against Marcus Dwaileebe of Belmont Abbey, and Akins will finish off the field for the Cobras against Devin Pemmerenke of Limestone.
Cunningham earned the fifth seed in his weight class and will have a first round bye. Huff, Burrows and Parland will also have first round byes.
