Coker Wrestling Hosts Tri-Match on Saturday

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College wrestling team will return to the friendly confines of the Timberlake-Lawton Gymnasium for a tri-match on Saturday (Jan. 11) against Brewton-Parker College and King University. Live coverage of all three matches will be available at www.cokercobras.com.

Ranked No. 14 in Region 2 according to the most recent NCAA Division II Regional Rankings, the Cobras are looking to stay undefeated in dual matches at home. So far this season they are 4-2 in dual matches. Leading the way for the Cobras will be Austin Akins. The 285-pound sophomore is currently ranked No. 6 in the region in his weight class. Akins is tied with Charlie Huff at the 133-pound division for the most wins (15) on the team.

Brewton-Parker is an NAIA school out of Mount Vernon, Ga. The Barons are 2-1 in dual matches this season. They defeated Darton State 20-19, lost to Belmont Abbey 30-12 and defeated Mercer 34-6.

King comes to Coker ranked No. 10 in Region 2. This will be the fist dual match of the season for the Tornado. At 133-pounds D'Marcus Spencer leads the way, the senior is ranked No. 4 in the region in his weight class.

The tri-match will begin at 10 a.m. with Coker taking on Brewton-Parker. At 11:30 a.m. Brewton-Parker and King will take the mat and finally Coker and King will do battle at 1 p.m.  Tickets for the day can be purchased at the door. Cost is $5 for adults, $3 for students and, free for all Coker faculty, staff and students.
