Faith Kent Scores Six Goals, Cobras Down Southern Wesleyan 20-7

CENTRAL, S.C. -- The Coker College women's lacrosse team opened their season with an impressive 20-7 victory over Southern Wesleyan on Saturday (Feb. 2).

Coker's all-time goals leader Faith Kent started her senior season off by scoring the Cobras first goal just 30 seconds into the contest. Southern Wesleyan answered with two quick goals of their own to take a brief 2-1 advantage, before the Cobras scored four goals in just over two minutes to gain control of the game.

Bailey O'Brien and Kent scored back-to-back goals just 32 seconds apart, and then Alyssa Baronella-O'Toole and Kent repeated that same feat in only 15 seconds. Leading 5-3, Coker scored eight unanswered goals to take a commanding 13-3 lead with just over 10 minutes remaining the in the half. The Cobras went to halftime with a 16-5 lead thanks to a pair of late goals from Katie Driskell.

Nine different Cobras scored in the game, including a quartet of freshmen led by Meagan Gallagher and Hannah Shuren. Gallagher and Shuren scored two goals apiece, and Reagan Parr and Amariah Lawson each added a goal of their own.

Kent picked up another goal in the second half, finishing with six total on the afternoon. Baronella-O'Toole filled the box score with an impressive all-around performance scoring two goals, dishing out two assists, collecting three ground balls, and causing two turnovers.

Freshman Olivia Fladung had an impressive debut in the cage for Coker, collecting five saves while playing all sixty minutes.

The Cobras will be back in action on Thursday (Feb. 7) when they play their home opener against Palm Beach Atlantic at Coker Athletic Field. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
