High Scoring Contest Ends in Cobra Overtime Victory, Kent Sets New Single-Game Points Record

MARS HILL, N.C.- The Coker College women's lacrosse team stared down the Lions of Mars Hill in a South Atlantic Conference game on Saturday, April 14, and came out victorious in sudden-death overtime, 23-22. The Cobras are now on a two-game conference win-streak.

For the second time this month, Faith Kent created the Coker single-game points record. This time she upped it to 14 with nine goals (tied personal/Coker record) and five assists. Kent added six ground balls, 13 draw controls, and caused a team-high three turnovers. Haley McCusker had a solid performance with six goals, scooping up five ground balls, controlling eight draws, causing a turnover. Skylar Stowers scored her first goal of the season in the action. Bri Neily and Sarah Bryson also contributed a goal each. Cassie Williams gets credit for the win with 16 saves and three ground balls in over 65 minutes of play.

Coker went into halftime with a 10-8 lead over the Lions. It was stretched to 18-14 and 19-15 before Mars Hill went on a four goal run to tie up the contest with less than 10 minutes left. The teams traded goals to tie it up one final time at 22 with 1:20 remaining. No team scored in the rest of regulation, forcing overtime.

Mars Hill never got a shot off in extra time, while Coker managed three including the game winning goal. The Lions turned it over twice to give the Cobras extra possessions, leading to the goal by McCusker that was assisted by Kent.

The Navy and Gold will head to the SAC-leading Lenoir-Rhyne Bears to the last regular season roadtrip. Opening draw is scheduled for Wednesday, April 18 at 4:00 p.m.
