Cobras Find Victory in Tough Battle Over Bulldogs

HARTSVILLE, S.C.- The Coker College women's lacrosse team faced the Bulldogs of Wingate University, a South Atlantic Conference opponent, on Wednesday, April 11. The Cobras won by a score of 16-15 over the visiting Bulldogs.

In a game that had 12 ties and 24 lead changes, the Navy and Gold found the back of the net in key times to pull out the triumphant afternoon. Back-to-back goals from Faith Kent within eight seconds of one another gave the Cobras the final swing.

Haley McCusker headed up the Coker offense with six goals and Kent followed with five. Katie Driskell added two goals, while Alexis Zegan, Bailey O'Brien, and Sarah Bryson contributed one each. Kent was responsible for the lone assist on the afternoon. McCusker and Cassie Williams held the team-high in ground balls, scooping up five and three, respectively. Sharing the draw control load to combine for 15 was Kent (5), Bryson (2), Jaeme Noriega (1), and McCusker (7).  McCusker caused a game-high five turnovers.

Williams made saves in tight situations, including when the time was winding down with Wingate attempting to tie. She finished with 13 in the game.

The Navy and Gold will have one final road-swing of the season, starting with Mars Hill on Saturday, April 14. Opening draw against the Lions is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
