Cobras Host Bulldogs in Mid-Week Conference Game

HARTSVILLE, S.C.- The Coker College women's lacrosse team squares off against the visiting Wingate University Bulldogs in a South Atlantic Conference battle on Wednesday, April 11. The Cobras are building momentum after soundly defeating Barton 20-8 a week ago and dropping a close game to SAC opponent Tusculum on Friday, April 6.

Faith Kent continues to lead the Cobras with 51 goals, while Haley McCusker is closing the gap with 46 to her credit. Kent is far-and-away the assist leader with 24, for a point total of 75. McCusker has scooped up a team-high 40 ground balls with three teammates in the 20's: Katie Driskell (25), Jaeme Noriega (21), and Cassie Williams (21). Kent and McCusker have dominated in the draw control category with 79 and 62, respectively. Driskell has caused the most turnovers at 18 with McCusker following at 15. Williams has eclipsed 100 saves on the season for a total of 108 through 10 games played.

As of April 9, Coker leads the conference and is 11th nationally in draw controls per game with 16.64. They are third in the SAC with 17.27 points per game.

Individually, Driskell is second in the conference in caused turnovers per game at 2.00. Williams ranks third among the SAC in two categories: saves (108) and saves per game (10.80). McCusker's senior year has been solid throughout. She leads the conference in free position goals per game, averaging 1.00. McCusker ranks second in the SAC in four separate columns: goals (46), goals per game (4.18, 13th nationally), shots per game (8.55, 11th in the nation), and shots on goal per game (6.82, ninth nationally). She is third in ground balls per game (3.64) and fourth in draw controls per game (5.64).Kent is having a phenomenal season by leading the conference in eight different categories: assists per game (2.18), draw controls per game (7.18, 12th nationally), goals (51, 14th in the nation), goals per game (4.64, sixth nationally), points (75, ninth in the nation), points per game (6.82, fourth nationally), shots per game (9.00, eighth nationally), and shots on goal per game (7.00, seventh in the nation). She is also fourth in the conference with 24 assists.

The Bulldogs (3-10, 2-2 SAC) come in after a weeklong layoff after losing a 14-6 decision at No. 7 Limestone. Wingate has 130 goals in 13 games, along with 71 assists, 238 ground balls, 258 turnovers, 80 caused turnovers, and 169 saves.

Opening draw against Wingate is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. Tickets for the game are $5 for adults, $3 for students and free to all Coker faculty, staff and students.
