Cobras Drop Railsplitters on Senior Day

HARTSVILLE, S.C.- Coker women's lacrosse defeated Lincoln Memorial 21-10 on Senior Day Saturday (Apr. 22) to finish out the regular season. 

An unassisted marker from Faith Kent less than three minutes in got the scoring started, before Marabeth Durden put Coker up by two a little over a minute later. After the Railsplitters got on the board, the Cobras responded with five in a row over a span of eight minutes. A pair from Haley McCusker, followed by a pair from Claudia Jenkins and then a third from McCusker put Coker up 7-1 halfway through the first half. After another LMU tally, Jenkins stashed another home to make it 8-2. The visitors got the game to within 8-4, before a 6-2 Coker run over the last 12 minutes of the half put the Cobras up 14-6 at the break. One from Karah Huntsinger, two from Jenkins, two from Kent and one more from McCusker finished out the half.

The Cobras began the second half with four straight goals, stretching their lead to 18-6 and starting the running clock. Coker kept its lead up over 10 for the remainder of the second half, and added to their lead late in the second half. Goals from Bailey O'Brien, Kent and Huntsinger rounded out the scoring. 

Kent and Jenkins each tallied six goals in the win, while McCusker added four. Huntsinger torched the twine twice, while Mackenzie Baker, O'Brien and Durden each chipped in one. Coker more than doubled up the visitors in ground balls 27-13, with McCusker scooping up a team-high five. Coker won 15 draw controls, with Durden collecting a team-high five. McCusker led the defensive effort with seven caused turnovers in the game. Cassie Williams (13-4) made three saves in the victory.

Coker (13-4, 6-2 SAC) will host a South Atlantic Conference quarterfinal on Tuesday (Apr. 25) when they host Catawba at a time to be determined.
