Kent Steps Down as Coker Women's Lacrosse Coach

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Coker College interim head women's lacrosse coach Chelsea Kent announced her resignation today after three years at Coker.

"I have enjoyed my time at Coker College and feel extremely grateful for the friendships and experience that I have gained over the past three years," Kent said. "I will be forever grateful for the opportunity the college provided me, and I want to personally thank Dr. Wyatt and Dr. Griffin for allowing and trusting me to lead the student-athletes here at Coker. I wish the college, athletics department and women's lacrosse program continued success."

Kent joined the Coker staff as the assistant women's lacrosse coach in 2013. In the summer of 2014 she was promoted to interim head coach. During her two-year span as the leader of the Cobras, Kent compiled a record of 17-15 and guided Coker to the South Atlantic Conference Women's Lacrosse Championship semifinals in 2015.

She had 11 players earn all-conference accolades under her guidance and had four players receive Astroturf SAC Player of the Week honors.

"I would like to thank Chelsea for her service to Coker College," said Dr. Lynn Griffin, vice president of athletics and athletics facilities. "She has been here since the program's inception and she has helped establish a solid foundation of women's lacrosse here at Coker."

A highly talented high school and college player, Kent played Division I lacrosse at St. Francis University (Pa.) from 2008-2010. During her time at St. Francis she set several records, including being ranked No. 5 all-time in total points in a season (52), No. 6 all-time in assists in a season (17), No. 4 all-time in goals in a season (39), No. 4 all-time in career points (96), No. 5 all-time in career assists (30) and No. 4 all-time in career goals (66). She was named the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week in 2009.

A native of Winter Springs, Fla., Kent, served as the head coach at Orangewood Christian School in Orlando and was the director of the Hericanes Lacrosse Club before coming to Coker.
