Five Coker Women's Lacrosse Players Earn All-SAC Honors

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker College women's lacrosse team had five members named to the South Atlantic Conference all-conference teams, the league office announced today.

Leading the way is defender Marabeth Durden, who was named a first team All-SAC selection. Attacks Haley McCusker and Danielle Holcomb along with midfielders Claudia Jenkins and Mackenzie Baker were All-SAC honorable mention selections.

Durden, a sophomore from Orlando, Fla., netted 14 goals and dished out three assists in route to a 17-point season. She led the Cobras with 18 caused turnovers, while scooping up 38 ground balls and collecting 31 draw controls.

Marabeth is an education major with a concentration in early childhood education. She is the daughter of Michael Durden, Mitzi Sheppard, Karl Sheppard and Lisa Durden.

McCusker, a freshman from Warwick, R.I., scored 32 goals and handed out 10 assists during her rookie campaign. Her 32 goals were 16th in the SAC and the 42-point total was inside the top 20. She also picked up 50 ground balls which was seventh in the conference.

Haley is an undecided major and is the daughter of Lynn and James McCusker.

Holcomb, a sophomore, compiled 48 points on the season, which is tied for the team lead. She scored 33 goals and racked up a team-best 15 assists. Her 48 points were 11th best in the conference, her 33 goals were 14th and her 15 assists came in at eighth-best in the SAC. She also recorded 36 ground balls.

Danielle is a communication major from Lake Mary, Fla. She is the daughter of Mary and Charles Holcomb.

Baker, a sophomore native of Orlando, Fla., notched her second straight All-SAC selection after being named second team ALL-SAC in 2014. She scored 30 goals and had nine assists during her sophomore year. Her 30 goals and 39-point total were both inside the top 25 in the SAC. She picked up 31 ground balls and her 42 draw control wins were 11th in the conference.

Mackenzie is an undecided major and is the daughter of Debbie and Wayne Baker.

Jenkins, a freshman, had an impressive first season for the Navy and Yellow. She had 48 points, which was tied for a team-high, on 41 goals and seven assists. Her 41 goals were seventh in the SAC and her point total was good enough for 11th. She was second in the conference in ground balls with 55 and fourth in the SAC with 63 draw controls. She was also fifth in shots taken with 86 and sixth with 69 shots on goal to go along with 14 caused turnovers.

Claudia is a biology major from Keedysville, Md. She is the daughter of Kimberley Thrasher and Joseph Melody.
