Cobras Upset Pioneers 12-8

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker Cobras took care of business on Saturday (Apr. 4) as they defeated the Tusculum Pioneers 12-8 in South Atlantic Conference women's lacrosse action.

The Cobras jumped out to an early 7-2 lead in the first half. The Pioneers battled back, but Coker retained an 8-6 lead at the break.

Tusculum scored two quick goals to begin the second half and tie the game at eight. Goals by Danielle Holcomb, Shannon Jessop and Haley McCusker would give the Cobras the lead and the eventual win.

McCusker led the attack with four goals, while Holcomb picked up a hat trick and a pair of assists. Mackenzie Baker also added two goals and an assist, with Jessop scoring a goal and assisting on another. Marabeth Durden and Lindsay Ordemann each added a single goal as well for the Cobras.

Kaitlyn Vela, Millie Rogers and Claudia Jenkins led the Cobras on defense. Vela had eight saves between the pipes, while Rogers had four caused turnovers and three ground balls and Jenkins caused three turnovers and picked up two ground balls.

The Cobras will now prepare to travel to Brevard for their final regular season game of the season on Saturday (Apr. 11).
