Cobras Notch Fifth Straight Home Win Against ThunderWolves

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker women's lacrosse team picked up its fifth straight win at home with a 12-9 non-conference victory over the ThunderWolves of CSU-Pueblo on Monday (Mar. 23) afternoon. The Cobras are now 5-1 at home on the season.

After a slow first half, Coker would hold a two-goal lead at 5-3 over CSU-Pueblo going into the halftime break. The Cobra offense would come alive in the second half, rattling off five unanswered goals to start the half, including three within the first 50 seconds of play. The run would put Coker up 10-3; however, the ThunderWolves would mount a 4-0 run of their own to bring the score to 10-7 with 19:36 left in the game. Coker would add two more insurance goals to put the game out of reach, while CSU-Pueblo would add two goals late in the period to make the final score 12-9.

Haley McCusker found the back of the net three times, while picking up nine ground balls and causing four turnovers to pace the Cobras. Claudia Jenkins added two goals and an assist to her six ground balls, six draw controls and two caused turnovers, while Mackenzie Baker tallied two goals and an assist with five draw controls and three ground balls. Marabeth Durden scored twice and scooped up seven ground balls. Danielle Holcomb found the back of the net once to go along with her six ground balls and game-high three assists, while Ashlyn Burgett added a goal and assist with five ground balls. Millie Rogers rounded out the scoring with one goal and four ground balls.

Defensively, Kaitlyn Vela made 11 saves in 60 minutes of action and scooped up six ground balls.

Coker will look to add to its home winning streak when they host the Flying Fleet of Erskine College on Thursday (Mar. 26). The game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start
