Cobras Dominate Railsplitters in 16-3 SAC Win

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker women's lacrosse team improved to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in South Atlantic Conference play with its 16-3 rout of Lincoln Memorial University on Saturday (Mar. 7) afternoon.

The Navy and Yellow would start the game on a 12-0 run and lead 12-2 going into halftime. The second half would a defensive clinic, as the Cobra gave up one goal and only allowed the Railsplitters to get off two shots in the half.

Haley McCusker led the Cobras with five goals and an assist for six points and added six ground balls to her stat line. Danielle Holcomb netted two goals and dished out a team-high three assists for five points on the day. Mackenzie Baker and Claudia Jenkins each found the back of the net twice, while Millie Rogers and Cierra Davis each tallied one score. Shannon Jessop finished with two points on a goal and an assist and Ashlyn Burgett and Lindsay Ordemann dish out an assist apiece.

Marabeth Durden, who caused four turnovers and picked up four ground balls to go along with her two goals led Coker defensively. Kaitlyn Vela made three saves on six shots faced in 60 minutes of action.

The Cobras will hit the road for Florida, as they take on the Tars of Rollins College on Tuesday (Mar. 10). The non-conference matchup is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start.
