Baker Scores Five in 17-12 Loss to Newberry

NEWBERRY, S.C. – The Coker women's lacrosse team lost a tough 17-12 South Atlantic Conference game to Newberry College on Friday (Apr. 11), at Setzler Field.

The Cobras got off to a slow start in the first half as Newberry took a quick 4-0 advantage.  Mackenzie Baker would then put the first point on the scoreboard for the Cobras, but the Wolves would respond with five straight goals to take a 9-1 lead with just over 10-minutes remaining in first half action.  The Navy and Yellow however would not go away easily, and go on to score five goals to narrow the Newberry lead to 10-6 at the half.

Coker continued to press the pace in the second half, and went on to tie the score at 11-11 with just over 16-minutes remaining in regulation.  Unfortunately, the Coker offense stalled and the Wolves went on to score six more second half goals to take the game by a final score of 17-12.

Baker led all scorers in the game with five goals.  Millie Rogers, Ashlyn Burgett, and Danielle Holcomb all contributed two goals, while Hayley Ferone tacked on one more.

Coker will play their final regular season game on Wednesday (Apr. 16) at Mount Olive.  Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
