Cobras Fall to Fleet, 15-11

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker women's lacrosse team lost their season opener to Erskine College in a nonconference match up on Monday (Feb. 17) by a score of 15-11.

It appeared as if Erskine would run away with it in the first half, as the Cobras trailed 11-4 at the break.

The Navy and Yellow however would not back down easily.  Headed by a strong defensive performance, Coker began to make a come back as they outscored the Flying Fleet 7-4 in the final 30 minutes.  The first half deficit however proved to be too much for Coker to overcome as the clock struck zero in favor of the visiting team.

Hayley Ferone and Danielle Holcomb led the offense for the Cobras with three goals and one assist each.  Shannon Jessop and Mackenzie Baker tacked on two goals apiece, with Baker adding two assists and 10 draw controls to her stat line.  Lindsay Ordemann was also a goal contributor as she went 1-for-1 on her shot attempts, while Marabeth Durden led the team with three assists.

Coker will be looking to bounce back this weekend as they travel to face Young Harris on Saturday (Feb. 22).  The first draw between the Cobras and Mountain Lions will be at 1:00 p.m.
