Coker Golf Makes History with Second Place Finish at SAC Championship

SEVIERVILLE, TENN. – The Coker women's golf team captured second place at the 2014 Food Lion SAC Golf Championship on Tuesday (Apr. 15), with a three round team total of 1,013.

Freezing rain, sleet, and 20 mile per hour winds led to tough weather conditions for the golfers during their final day of the tournament.  Despite the difficult challenges, the second place finish marks the best conference finish for the Cobras since the program started back in 2010.

Taylor Demby led the Cobras all three days of the tournament with a three round total of 239, and finished the final day with a 79.  Her score was good enough for third place on the individual leader board.  Mallory Thompkins, Krista Thorpe, and Amber Harman all tied for 22nd for individual play with 258.  Both Thompkins and Harman finished the final day with scores of 87, while Thorpe signed off on a 90.  Rounding out the field for Coker was Tensley Clowser, who finished the final day with a 93 to total 269 for the tournament.

Taking home the SAC title was Wingate University with a team score of 996.  Johanna Neumann of Wingate also took home the individual title with a three-day score of 231.
