SOUTHEAST REGIONAL WILL BE HOSTED BY NORTH GEORGIA, INCLUDES TWO OTHER SAC SCHOOLS
Indianapolis, IN - The full field of sixty-four teams in this year's NCAA DII Women's Basketball national tournament was announced last night, and for the first time in school history, the Cobras have earned an at-large bid into the tournament!
The field is composed of eight regions with eight teams per region for a total of sixty-four in the bracket. The Cobras are part of the Southeast Region and were named the second overall seed, behind only North Georgia (who will host the tournament). The full field is as follows:
1 - North Georgia
2 - Coker
3 - Anderson
4 - Francis Marion
5 - Columbus State
6 - Carson-Newman
7 - Belmont Abbey
8 - UNC Pembroke
There are two other South Atlantic Conference teams in the tournament - #3 Anderson and #6 Carson-Newman - who will play each other in round one. Other teams the Cobras are familiar with include #4 Francis Marion, whom the Cobras defeated in a close 71-69 battle in the first game of the year, and UNC Pembroke, whom the Cobras defeated 64-52 in an early-season clash.
With the given format and seeding, the Cobras will match up against Conference Carolinas side Belmont Abbey in round one of the tournament. The team will travel to North Georgia for the tournament, with said game one tipping off at 2:30 PM ET this Friday, March 14th. Should they win that game, the Cobras will await the winner of #3 Anderson and #6 Carson-Newman, with the Cobras looking to exact revenge on both of those teams. Carson-Newman defeated Coker in the final regular season game, while Anderson stood between the Cobras and their first-ever SAC Tournament Title.
The Cobras are amped up and ready to go and can't wait to head out for game one. More information for the tournament is listed below!
