Women's Hoops Drops South Atlantic Conference Tilt at Lenoir-Rhyne on Saturday

HICKORY, N.C. - The Coker University women's basketball team dropped its South Atlantic Conference tilt at Lenoir-Rhyne on Saturday (Jan. 4) by a score of 74-58.

 The Cobras would open up the game by taking a 6-5 lead to the halfway point of the first quarter, before Lenoir-Rhyne finished the frame on a 12-2 run to take a 17-8 lead to the second quarter.

Lenoir-Rhyne would extend its lead into double digits in the second quarter, keeping their lead at 10 going to the half with the score 31-21.

The Bears would extend their lead further in the second half on their way to the victory. The Cobras would put a string of scoring possessions together early in the fourth quarter to trim the deficit, but it was not enough.

Amanda Cherry finished with a team-high 13 points, while Saquita Joyner contributed 12 points and Jalah Horton also added 10 points. Six other Cobras chipped in points in the game. Each team pulled down 46 rebounds in the game, with Coker led by Erin Houser with 10. Joyner grabbed eight rebounds in the game, while seven other Cobras were active on the glass in the contest. Coker also edged L-R on the offensive boards 19-10. Kaleah Hires dished out a team-high three assists in the game, while six others helped on buckets in the game. Emily Davis led the Cobras with four steals in her first game in Navy and Gold, while six others also had steals in the game. Ashauntee Nelson blocked two shots in the game, while Hope Richardson also had one block in the game.

The Cobras are back at the friendly confines of the DeLoach Center next Wednesday (Jan. 8) to face Catawba in South Atlantic Conference action. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m., with video and live stats available at www.cokercobras.com.
