Women's Basketball Inks Helms During Early Signing Period

HARTSVILLE, S.C. -- Coker College head women's basketball coach Shannon Johnson announced the signing of Alex Helms (Monroe, N.C.) during the early signing period.

"We are very excited about Alex signing to join our Cobra basketball family", said Johnson.  "Alex is a good defender and a great rebounder, she will add immediate depth to our post position for the upcoming year."

Helms is a center out of Monroe, North Carolina where she attends Piedmont High School and is a member of the Panther's basketball team. On the court, Helms led Union County in blocks and was named the Union County Newcomer of the Year following the 2017-18 season. Helms is also on the ballot for the Player of the Year award for this season. She Won the NTBA National Championship in Myrtle Beach while playing with UC Elite. Off the court, she has been named to the AB Honor Roll, while also participating in PALS, Project Unify, Jungle on the Move, Sole to Soul, Move for Hunger, and the Urban Ministry cleanup.

Helms is the daughter of Lynda and Kevin Helms. Her father played basketball at Mitchell Community College.
