Coker's Janea Williams to Play Professional Basketball in Spain

HARTSVILLE, S.C. -- Former Coker College women's basketball standout Janea Williams will continue her playing career after signing with C.B. Arxil of Liga Feminina 2 earlier this week. Williams is headed to Pontevedra, Spain where she's slated to play center for her new team, which has a combined record of 53-47 over the past four seasons.

Coker women's basketball coach Shannon Johnson says, "We are thrilled for this opportunity for Janea to play professionally. She's worked very hard on and off the court to continue her career. She's a 4.0 student and a selfless teammate."

Williams averaged 9.8 points, 9.5 rebounds, and was the South Atlantic Conference blocks leader with 2.8 blocks per game for the Cobras last season. She was a dominant interior presence for Coker throughout the season, recording five or more blocks on five separate occasions, including an eight-block performance against Lincoln Memorial. Williams was rewarded for her phenomenal season when she received the coveted Female Newcomer of the Year Award at the 2018 FANG Awards.

"I'm thankful for the opportunity to continue playing basketball on the next level," Williams said. "It has been a lifelong dream and I'm glad that I have a great support system that has helped instill a strong work ethic. I am looking forward to this new journey."

C.B. Arxil's season is slated to begin Saturday, Oct. 6. Fans can follow Williams' career by visiting http://arxil.es/.
