HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College women's basketball team will take on the visiting Lincoln Memorial University Railsplitters Saturday (Feb. 17) afternoon in South Atlantic Conference action on Senior Day. The Cobras will be honoring seniors Gina Cerezuela, Caitland Considine, Kendra Lambert, Sydney Shull, and Janea Williams.
Cerezuela, a 6-5 center from Barcelona, Spain, played in eight games as a Cobra. The business major is the daughter of Jordi Cerezuela Badia and Robuste Perez.
Cooper is a 5-10 forward from Hemingway, S.C. Last season, Cooper played in 25 games in her first season in Hartsville, starting in 20 of them. She was second on the team in minutes played per game (27.5), and was prominent in the South Atlantic Conference in several offensive categories. Her 11.8 points per game average was a team-high and 18th in the league, and she was second in the SAC in field goal percentage, shooting 55.1 percent from the floor. Cooper pulled down a team-high 6.4 rebounds per game, which was 13th-best individually in the conference ... Recorded three double-doubles on the season. This season, Cooper is averaging 5.6 points per game, 3.7 rebounds per game, and is shooting 57.6 percent from the field. The sports management major is the daughter of Nicole Cooper and Stafford Cooper.
Considine is a 5-9 guard from Greer, S.C. Last season, Considine played in all 27 games in her first season with the Navy and Gold, starting in 17 of them. She registered 19.6 minutes per game, and shot 41.5 percent from the field In addition, Considine shot 25.0 percent from long range and collected 2.5 rebounds per game, as well as 5.0 points per game. This season, Considine is averaging 5.1 points per game, 1.9 rebounds per game, 1.3 assist per game, and one steal per game. Most recently, Considine was selected to participate in the WBCA/Alliance of Women "So You Want to be a Coach" program. The exercise science major is the daughter of Cinnamon McCauley, Tom Considine, and Barry McCauley.
Lambert, a 5-7 guard from Palmyra, Ind., has played all four years for the Navy and Gold. In the 2015-16 season, Lambert played and started in all 28 games during her sophomore season. She averaged 10.5 points per game and 2.2 rebounds. Lambert won the Female Breakthrough Athlete of the Year at the 2016 FANG Awards. A team captain during her junior season, Lambert played in 19 games including nine starts in 2016-2017. She logged 24.6 minutes, and in that time shot 31.1 percent from the field, 22.1 percent from 3-point range and 67.6 percent from the charity stripe. Lambert chipped in 7.6 points per game and also registered 2.0 rebounds per game. The exercise science major is the daughter of Pam and John Lambert.
Shull is a 5-6 guard from Irmo, S.C. and has competed for the Cobras all four years. In the 2014-15 season, Shull averaged 3.2 points and 2.2 rebounds per game. Her best performance of the season came against Carson-Newman (Jan. 17) where she poured in 20 points and pulled down six rebounds, finishing 7-for-10 from the field and 4-for-5 from behind the arc in the game. She was a team captain her junior season, playing in all 27 games and making 23 starts. Shull logged 29.9 minutes per game, the highest average on the team. She shot 46.5 percent from the floor, 39.0 percent from downtown and was the team's best free throw shooter, making 84.7 percent of shots from the charity stripe. Shull hauled in 3.4 rebounds per game, and was second on the team in scoring, with 8.9 points per game. This season, Shull is averaging 3.7 points per game, 2.1 rebounds per game, and 1.2 assists per game. The business major is the daughter of Janice and Wyman Shull.
Williams, a 6-3 graduate student from Pinehurst, N.C. is the Cobras third-leading scorer, averaging 10.1 points per game. Williams leads the Navy and Gold in rebounds per game (9.1) and blocks per game (2.7). Her mark in rebounds per game is second in the SAC and her total blocks per game is tied for first in the conference.
The Navy and Gold head into tomorrow's contest with three players averaging ten or more points per game. Hayley Kropp leads Coker averaging 11.3 points per game. Erin Houser and Williams trail Kropp with 10.1 points per game each.
On the defensive end, Williams continues to anchor the Navy and Gold with a team-leading 9.1 rebounds per game. Williams is tied for first in the SAC with 2.7 blocks per game. Her season marks in rebounds are good for second in the SAC.
Lincoln Memorial heads into tomorrow's contest with a 14-10 overall record with a 9-8 mark in conference play. Shea Coker leads the Railsplitters offensively averaging 13.4 points per game.
Opening tip is set for 2 p.m. Tickets for the game are $5 for adults, $3 for students, and free to all Coker faculty, staff, and students. Tomorrow's game is also faculty/staff appreciation day.
