HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College women's basketball team dropped a tight 63-60 South Atlantic Conference contest Wednesday (Feb. 14) night to the visiting Catawba College Indians during the Play 4 Kay game. Technical fouls from each squad and a disqualification given to a Catawba player during the final three seconds of regulation sent both teams to the charity stripe. The Indians came out on top, sinking all four of their free throws for the victory. 

The Cobras used an impressive seven point run in the second quarter to pull out to a 27-18 lead with one minute in the frame remaining. The run was formed from an Erin Houser layup, and two layups and made free throw from Caitland Considine. At half, the Cobras led the Indians 30-19. 

The Navy and Gold continued to keep their distance from Catawba in the third quarter and headed to the final stanza leading by 11 points. However, the Indians put together a furious comeback in the final quarter for the victory. 

Janea Williams led the Cobras on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball, recording a team-best 13 points, nine rebounds, and four blocks. Hayley Kropp added 12 points on the offensive end and dished out two assists. Shay Jackson posted 10 points and four rebounds off the bench. 

The Cobras will be back in action on Saturday (Feb. 17) when they host Lincoln Memorial in their final home game of the season at 2 p.m. for senior day.
