Double-Double Performances Lead Coker Past Mars Hill

MARS HILL, N.C. – The Coker College women's basketball team won their second-straight game with a 75-65 victory over Mars Hill in South Atlantic Conference action on Saturday (Feb. 3) afternoon.  

Four Cobras scored in double figures as Erin Houser led the way with 15 points and 15 rebounds. Houser recorded her third double-double of the season and her second of the season against Mars Hill. She scored 17 points and added 11 rebounds in the Cobras victory over the Lions back on Dec. 16. 

Janea Williams, Hayley Kropp, and Trai Johnson also scored in double figures for Coker.  Trai Johnson's 12 points matched her career-high. Williams recorded a double-double of her own with 14 points and 13 rebounds. 

Coker trailed the Lions 18-12 after the first quarter, but used a 22-6 run to take control of the game in the second quarter. Johnson was the catalyst for the run, scoring seven of her 12 points in the quarter. 

The Cobras used solid defense and outstanding rebounding to control the game the rest of the way. Coker outrebounded the Lions 58-42, and generated eight steals and four blocks.  Williams recorded three of the four blocks to remain second in the South Atlantic Conference in blocked shots with 2.6 per game. 

Coker will be back in action on Wednesday (Feb. 7) when they travel to Newberry to take on the Wolves in conference play. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
