Cobras Look to Dethrone Royals Before Holiday Break

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College women's basketball team will host the visiting Queens University Royals before the holiday break on Monday (Dec. 18) in South Atlantic Conference action. Opening tip is set for 6 p.m. in the DeLoach Center. Live stats and video will be available at www.cokercobras.com. 

Most recently, the Cobras used a balanced attack to cruise to a 93-64 victory over the Mars Hill University Lions Saturday (Dec. 16) afternoon in South Atlantic Conference play. Erin Houser (17 points), Sydney Shull (17 points), Janea Williams (12 points), and Hannah Stull (ten points) all reached double figures on the offensive end for the Cobras. 

The Navy and Gold head into tomorrow's game with a steady offensive attack that includes four players averaging eight or more points per game. Hayley Kropp leads Coker averaging 11.9 points per game. Iresha Cooper trails Kropp with 9.6 points per game and is shooting 63.1 percent from the field, good for second in the SAC. Other Cobras putting up eight or more points per game include Williams (9.0 ppg) and Houser (8.9 ppg). 

On the defensive end, Williams has been a staple for the Navy and Gold with a team-leading 9.3 rebounds per game and 1.9 blocks per game. Williams comes in at second in the SAC in both statistical categories. Cooper has also made significant contributions on the defensive end, averaging a team-high 1.2 steals per game and adding 5.4 rebounds per game. 

Queens enters tomorrow's contest with a 3-6 overall record that includes a 0-4 mark in conference play. Lade Adepoju leads the Royals offensively, averaging 15.6 points per game.
