Cobras Return Home for Conference Matchup with Mars Hill

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College women's basketball team returns to the friendly confines of the DeLoach Center to take on the visiting Mars Hill University Lions Saturday (Dec. 16) afternoon in South Atlantic Conference (SAC) action. Opening tip is set for 2 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at www.cokercobras.com. 

The Navy and Gold head into tomorrow's game with a balanced attack that includes four players averaging eight or more points per game. Hayley Kropp leads Coker averaging 12.2 points per game after putting up a season-best 26 points against Carson-Newman on Dec. 9 and 17 against Tusculum on Dec. 13. Iresha Cooper trails Kropp with 9.8 points per game and is shooting 63.8 percent from the field, good for second in the SAC. Other Cobras putting up eight or more points per game include Janea Williams (8.6 ppg) and Erin Houser (8.0 ppg). 

On the defensive end, Williams has anchored the Navy and Gold with a team-leading 9.5 rebounds per game and 1.8 blocks per game. Williams comes in at second in the SAC in both statistical categories. Cooper has also made significant contributions on the defensive end, averaging a team-high 1.2 steals per game and averaging 5.7 rebounds per game. 

Mars Hill enters tomorrow's contest with a 1-10 record. Sheena Johnson leads the Lions offensively, averaging 12.7 points per game. 

As mentioned, opening tip is set for 2 p.m. Tickets for the game are $5 for adults, $3 for students, and free to all Coker faculty, staff, and students. In addition, tomorrow's game is free to all Darlington County students and fans that bring two canned food items will receive $1 off admission for participating in the canned food drive.
