Cobras Fall to Saints in Conference Carolinas-SAC Showdown

BELMONT, N.C. – The Coker College women's basketball team fell to the Limestone College Saints 62-52 Saturday (Nov. 11) evening in the Conference Carolinas-SAC Showdown.

Coker came ready to play from the opening tip, as they completed a 10-0 run to begin the game. Layups from Iresha Cooper, Kaleah Hires, and Sydney Shull, followed by jumpers from Erin Houser and Shay Jackson rounded out the run. The Cobras held a 14-9 lead after the first quarter of action.

In the second frame of play, the Navy and Gold stretched their lead to ten once again with seven unanswered points for a 21-11 advantage. However, the Saints responded by stringing together an 11-point run to take a 22-21 lead, their first of the game.

Heading into halftime, the Cobras trailed the Saints 25-23.

The second half of action started out as a defensive battle, as both teams failed to score until Janea Williams recorded a jumper at the 7:44 mark of the third quarter to even the score at 25. After the made jumper from Williams, the Cobras rattled off 11 consecutive points to take a 36-25 lead. A Hayley Kropp three ball highlighted the Coker scoring run.

Limestone began to inch themselves back in the game and trimmed Coker's lead to 38-34 with short time remaining in the third quarter. As time expired in the quarter, Elizabeth Kincaid delivered with a clutch three-pointer to pull the Cobras ahead 41-34.

Limestone stormed back in the fourth quarter for the victory.

Kropp led the Cobras offensively with eight points, followed by Shull with seven. Williams led the Navy and Gold in rebounds, pulling down a team-high nine, while Cooper added eight.

The Cobras will be back in action on Tuesday (Nov. 14) when they travel to Barton to take on the Bulldogs at 5:30 p.m.
