Cobras Host Newberry for Senior Night on Wednesday

HARTSVILLE, S.C.- Coker women's basketball will take on Newberry on Wednesday (Feb. 22) for Senior Night. Video and live stats will be available at www.cokercobras.com.

The two teams met in Newberry's Eleazer Arena back on Jan. 11, with Newberry defeating Coker 64-42. Iresha Cooper finished with a team-high nine, while Sydney Shull and Kendra Lambert each registered seven.

Coker defended its home court last Saturday (Feb. 18) on Play 4 Kay Day, taking an 83-51 victory over Mars Hill. Lindsey Adams led all Cobras with 18 points, while Cooper added 15 and was also one rebound shy of a double-double. Shull poured in 13 while Elizabeth Kincaid contributed 11.

On the year, Iresha Cooper leads the Cobras in scoring, dropping 12.2 points per game, which is 18th individually in the South Atlantic Conference. The junior transfer is also second in the league in field goal percentage, shooting 55.2 percent from the floor.

The Wolves come into the matchup 16-8 and 12-8 in conference play. Meg Essex leads the scoring efforts for the Scarlet and Gray, averaging 15.0 points per game, which is seventh-best in the SAC.

Coker will be honoring seniors Raquel McArthur and Lyric Levester prior to Wednesday night's game.

McAthur is a senior from Talahassee, Fla. and a four-year member of the Coker women's basketball team. In her career, she has played in 73 games, making 22 starts. She has averaged 7.8 minutes per game and has a career shooting percentage of 29.5. McArthur is the daughter of Aretha and LaShawn McNeil, and a biology major.
 
Levester is a senior from Jacksonville, N.C. and a four-year member of the Coker women's basketball team, despite missing her junior season due to injury. In her career in Coker Navy and Gold, she has played in 72 games, making 21 starts. She averaged 11.8 minutes per game, shot 45.0 percent from the field and also shot 68.7 percent from the free throw line. Levester is the daughter of William and Shirley Levester, and a business major.

Tip-off is slated for 6:00 p.m. at the DeLoach Center. Tickets for the game are $5 for adults, $3 for students and free to all Coker faculty, staff and students. It is also Coker College Faculty and Staff Appreciation Night.
