Cobras Complete Season Sweep of Mars Hill on Saturday

HARTSVILLE, S.C.- Coker women's basketball defended home court with an 83-51 win over Mars Hill on Saturday (Feb. 18).

The teams placed a high-octane first quarter, with Coker leading 20-17 after 10 minutes. Coker would double up Mars Hill 20-10 in the second, taking a 40-27 lead to the locker room. After the visitors scored the opening bucket, Coker would respond with points on five straight possessions to stretch their lead to nine. Iresha Cooper split a pair of free throws, before knocking down a jumper on the following trip down the floor. Elizabeth Kincaid got in on the action with a jumper to give Coker the eight point advantage, before jump shots from Sydney Shull and Caitland Considine would spark the home team catching fire in the frame.

The Cobras led by as few as eight in the third quarter, and as many by 21 at the end of the frame. Coker would blow the game wide open in the final 10 minutes, ultimately sealing the 32-point victory at home.

Lindsey Adams led all Cobras with 18 points, while Cooper added 15 and was also one rebound shy of a double-double. Shull poured in 13 while Kincaid contributed 11. As a team, Coker shot 59.6 percent from the field and 40.0 percent from downtown. The Cobras also out-rebounded Mars Hill 50-24, outscored them 38-16 in the paint and outdid their opponents 52-8 off the bench.

The Cobras are back in action on Wednesday (Feb. 22) when they host Newberry in South Atlantic Conference action. Tip-off is slated for 6:00 p.m. at the DeLoach Center. Tickets for the game are $5 for adults, $3 for students and free to all Coker faculty, staff and students.
