Cobras Fall to Bears in Wednesday SAC Contest

HARTSVILLE, S.C.- Coker women's basketball dropped its South Atlantic Conference contest to Lenoir-Rhyne 61-42 on Wednesday (Jan. 18).

The teams played to a 20-14 first quarter, before the Bears clamped down defensively, and held Coker to six points in the second. Lenoir-Rhyne would carry the 31-20 lead to the half.

The Cobras responded by taking control in the first part of the third quarter. Sydney Shull and Kendra Lambert knocked down jumpers, before Aloni McFarland got in on the action with a steal and breakaway layup. Iresha Cooper knocked down a mid-range jumper the following possession, before another Shull bucket got the home team to within three points just before the halfway mark of the frame. Lenoir-Rhyne would respond with a run of its own in the second half of the quarter, and reclaim an 11-point lead headed to the fourth quarter. The Bears seized control in the final frame, outscoring the Navy and Gold 19-11 to seal the victory.

Kendra Lambert led the Cobras with 12 points, while eight other Cobras chipped in points.

The Cobras finish up their three-game homestand on Saturday (Jan. 21) when they host Lincoln Memorial in South Atlantic Conference action. Tip-off is slated for 2:00 p.m. at the DeLoach Center. Tickets for the game are $5 for adults, $3 for students and free to all Coker faculty, staff and students.
