Coker Women's Basketball Releases 2016-17 Schedule

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College women's basketball team and second-year head coach Shannon Johnson released its 29-game 2016-17 schedule today.

Exhibitions against Appalachian State and High Point highlight the schedule for the Navy and Gold. The Cobras will travel to Boone, N.C. on Nov. 2 to face the Mountaineers, who finished last season with a 10-20 overall record and a 6-14 in Sun Belt action. One week later on Nov. 9, Coker will travel to High Point, N.C. to take on the Panthers of High Point University, who finished 12-19 and 10-10 in Big South play last season.

Coker will open regular season play on Nov. 11-12, when they travel to Newberry College for the South Atlantic Conference/Conference Carolinas Challenge. The Cobras will face Belmont Abbey and Limestone in the two-day event. The Saints finished the 2015-16 regular season ranked No. 2 in the USA Today Coaches Poll and No. 1 in the Southeast Regional poll.

Coker will begin its third season playing in the friendly confines of the Harris E. and Louise H. DeLoach Center on Nov. 14 when they host UNC Pembroke at 6 p.m.

The Cobras will open their fourth season of South Atlantic Conference play on Nov. 22 when they take on the visiting Catawba College Indians.

Home and away matchups against Anderson, Wingate and Newberry highlight the Cobras' 22-game SAC slate. All three teams finished last season ranked in the top-10 in the Southeast Regional poll, with Anderson securing the No. 25 spot in the USA Today Coaches poll.

The Navy and Gold's 13-game home schedule features a three-game homestand from Jan. 14-21, with matchups against Carson-Newman University, Lenoir-Rhyne University and Lincoln Memorial University.
