HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Junior Kiara Shoats scored 12 points off the bench Saturday (Jan. 3) to help propel the Coker women's basketball team to a 69-54 South Atlantic Conference victory over the Brevard College Tornados. The win is Coker's fourth straight.

Coker used heavy defense, forcing seven turnovers on Brevard's first eight possessions, to open up an early 18-2 lead. Brevard would weather the initial storm and claw back to within four points with 2:30 left in the first half. However, three straight threes by Coker would send the Navy and Yellow into the locker rooms up 39-26.

The second half would start off much like the first as Coker forced four turnovers on Brevard's first four possessions. Careless turnovers would allow the Tornados to creep back into the game, but Coker's stifling defense would snuff out any chance of a real comeback and preserve the 69-54 victory.

Senior Tanesha Stenson chipped in 11 points and game-high nine rebounds, while classmate Hailey Yohn finished with nine points and a game-high five assists.

Coker will hit the road on Wednesday (Jan. 7) and put its four-game winning streak on the line in a SAC matchup against the Queens University of Charlotte Royals. The game is slated for a 6 p.m. start.
