Team Effort Leads Cobras to Non-Conference Win Over Braves

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker women's basketball team picked up a 61-58 non-conference win over the UNC Pembroke Braves on Wednesday (Dec. 3) night.

Pembroke would come out on fire offensively and would hold a 21-12 lead with seven minute to go in the first half. However, the Cobras would rattle off three straight triples and knot the game up at 21-all. Coker would close the half on an 11-1 run and go into the break with a 32-22 lead.

The Navy and Yellow would put on an offensive clinic to start the second half, going up by as many as 14 at one point. The Braves would slowly chip away at the Coker lead and come within three points with 48 seconds left in the contest. Seniors Kim Manning and Hailey Yohn would each knock down a free throw in the final seconds to preserve the 61-58 victory over Pembroke.

Leading the way for the Navy and Yellow was freshman Sydney Shull with a career-high 10 points and five rebounds. Senior Priscilla Fenty added nine points and two steals, while classmate Kelley Godbout added nine points and a team-high eight boards. Yohn finished the night with seven points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals. Lakeria Crowder paced the Coker offense with a game-high five assists.

Coker will hit the road this weekend for Harrogate, Tenn. to take on SAC foe Lincoln Memorial University. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
