Cobras Fall to Bears 48-41

HICKORY, N.C. – The Coker women's basketball team dropped a 48-41 contest to the Bears of Lenoir-Rhyne University on Wednesday (Feb. 26) in South Atlantic Conference basketball action.

Both teams would struggle to score in the first half as the Cobras held a slight 18-17 lead over L-R at halftime. Coker would continue to control the slow and methodical pace of the game in the opening minutes of the second half, but the Bears would mount a comeback and take a 26-25 lead after a jumper at the 14-minute mark. Following a Priscilla Fenty layup, the Cobras would tie the game up at 30-all, however, a L-R jumper two plays later would give them the lead for good. Despite not making another field-goal in the game the Bears were able to make 16 free throws down the stretch to preserve a 48-41 victory.

Leading the way offensively was Tanesha Stenson with 10 points and four steals. Fenty added eight points and six rebounds, while Kelley Godbout pulled down a team-high nine rebounds and chipped in five points.

Coker will be back in action this Saturday (Mar. 1) as they travel to face Tusculum in the regular season finale. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m., followed by the men's game 4:00.
