Cobras Looking to Tame Wolves

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker women's basketball team will play host to a scrappy SAC opponent in Newberry on Wednesday (Jan. 22) in the Timberlake-Lawton Gymnasium.   A live video webcast of the game can be found at www.cokercobras.com.

With 12 conference games left in the regular season, the importance of each game increases as the post season draws near.  Coker (8-6, 6-4) is currently tied for third with Lenoir-Rhyne and Catawba, while Newberry (9-5, 5-5) is close behind at the fourth place position.

In their first meeting the Cobras battled their way to a 76-62 victory over the Wolves at Eleazer Arena.  The navy and yellow had four players reach double figures in that game, including two double-double performances.  Tanesha Stenson poured in a game high 20 points and snatched down 10 boards, while Priscilla Fenty followed with 14 points and 10 rebounds.  Hailey Yohn and Jasmine Evans each scored 17 and 13 points, respectively.

The Cobras will be relying heavily on the scoring power of Stenson and Yohn in their upcoming stanza against the Wolves.  Stenson continues to lead the offense in scoring with an average of 15.8 points per game while Yohn is second in scoring with 10.5.  The forward duo of Fenty and Jessica Cohen will also play a key role on the offensive end as both players average 9.6 points per game.

Newberry is coming off a close 61-58 win over Brevard in their most recent competition.  Haylee Lepaio and Tasia Holdorf lead the charge for the Wolves with scoring averages of 16.8 points per game and 13.1, respectively.

Wednesday night's game will be Faculty/Staff Appreciation Night at Coker with all Coker faculty and staff receiving a free t-shirt, popcorn and drink at the game.

Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m. followed by the men's game at 8:00 p.m.  Tickets will be available at the door for $5 dollars for adults, $3 dollars for students, and free to all Coker students, faculty, and staff.
