Lions Sneak by Cobras, 57-54

MARS HILL, N.C. – The Coker women's basketball team lost a close 57-54 South Atlantic Conference game on Saturday (Dec. 14) to Mars Hill.  With the loss the Cobras drop to 5-3 on the season and 3-2 in the SAC.

In the waning minutes of the game, Mars Hill went on a 7-0 run to take the lead from Coker and eventually the game.  With just over three minutes remaining in regulation, the Cobras had a four point advantage.  However a Mars Hills three followed by a pair of free throws would give the Lions a slight 55-54 lead with just nine seconds remaining.  Two more made free throws in the final second would then preserve the win for Mars Hill.

Hailey Yohn led the game in scoring with 18 points.  Yohn went 7-of-12 from the field, including going 4-of-6 from deep.  Jessica Cohen was the next leading scorer for the Cobras with 16 points.  Cohen also had eight rebounds.  Tanesha Stenson had the game high 13 rebounds, and a team high seven assists for the Cobras.

Coker will return home for the next competition, as they host GRU Augusta on Saturday (Nov. 21).  Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
