Stenson Leads Cobras Past Railsplitters

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Junior guard Tanesha Stenson scored 24 points on Saturday (Dec. 7) night to lead the Coker women's basketball team to a 69-60 win over Lincoln Memorial in a SAC competition.  With the win the Cobras improve to 5-2 on the year, and 3-1 in conference play.

It was a closely contested first half as both teams battled for the lead position.  The Railsplitters however would go into the break with a small 34-30 lead over the Cobras.

LMU (4-3, 3-2) would start the second half with five quick points to take a nine point lead.  Hailey Yohn would then respond with a trifecta on the ensuing possession to smother any chance that the Railsplitters had to take a double-digit lead on the Cobras.

At the 12 minute mark, Stenson began to heat up.  She hit a layup to cut the LMU lead to just three, and then would eventually hit a step back deep ball to tie the game at 43-43 with just 10 minutes remaining in regulation.  Despite scoring just four points in the first half, Stenson went 7-for-9 from the field to net 20 second half points and lead the Cobras to victory.

Senior Forward Jessica Cohen also reached double-digits with 12 points, while Priscilla Fenty and Yohn each contributed 10.

Coker's next competition will come at Mars Hill on Saturday, December 14.   The game is slatted for a 2:00 p.m. start time.
