Stenson Lifts Cobras Past Royals in Final Seconds

Charlotte, N.C. – With two seconds remaining in regulation, junior guard Tanesha Stenson hit the game winning jump shot to lift the Coker women's basketball team to a 66-64 win over Queens University of Charlotte on Tuesday (Nov. 26) night.  With the win the Cobras improve to 4-1 on the year, and 2-1 in SAC play.

In the last minute of the second half Queens (1-4, 0-3) led the Cobras 64-61 after McKell Oliverio connected on a jump shot for the Royals.  The lead was short lived however as Hailey Yohn netted a three to tie the game just 15 seconds later.  Coker then forced a missed three-point attempt from Queens, to keep the game tied at 64-64.   Jenny Finora would then call a timeout with just five seconds remaining, and set up the game winning play for Stenson. 

The game was a battle from start to finish.  In the first half the score was tied five different times, before Coker entered the locker room with a slight 30-26 advantage.  The second half would mirror the first as both teams had their chance to take the game winning shot. 

Stenson led all scorers in the game with 21 points, while Yohn contributed 12.  Jessica Cohen also reached double-digits with 10 points on the night.

Coker will stay on the road for their next competition as they travel to face Armstrong in a nonconference competition on Sunday (Dec. 1).  Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
