Coker Downs No. 1 Ranked Newberry, 76-62

NEWBERRY, S.C. - The Coker women's basketball squad defeated the No. 1 ranked South Atlantic Conference team in Newberry on Wednesday (Nov. 20) night, by a score of 76-62.  With the win the Cobras improve to 3-0 on the year, and 1-0 in the SAC.

It was a closely contested game by both teams from the tip-off.  Neither team could take more than a four point lead within the first ten minutes, as the lead changed on three different occasions.  The Cobras began to separate however, and built a ten point advantage with just over two minutes remaining in the half.  The Wolves then responded with seven quick points, only allowing the Cobras to go into the locker room with a small 36-31 lead.

The second half mirrored the first as both teams continued to battle back and forth.  With just six minutes remaining in the game, the score was tied at 57.  Clutch shooting and a solid defensive performance however allowed the Cobras to go on a 19-5 run to end the game and collect the double-digit win.

Tanesha Stenson and Priscilla Fenty led the Cobras; each earning a double-double.  Stenson led the team with 20 points, while Fenty had 14.  Both Stenson and Fenty had a team high 10 rebounds on the night.  Hailey Yohn shot a season high 17 points, with 15 coming from deep.  Yohn shot an impressive 5-for-6 from behind the arc, including going 6-for-8 from the field.  Jasmine Evans was the fourth Cobra to score in double-digits as she landed 13 points of her own.  Both Evans and Heidrun Kristmundsdottir led the team with four assists.

Coker will return home this Saturday (Nov. 23) for another SAC competition, as they gear up to host the Eagles of Carson-Newman.  Game time is set to begin at 2:00 p.m.
