Mount Olive Tops Coker 58-44

HARTSVILLE, S.C.- Kelly Godbout (Matthews, N.C.) scored a team high 15 points for the Coker women's basketball team in their loss to Mount Olive College, 58-44, on Wednesday night. The Mount Olive Trojans were able to protect a slim lead midway through the second half, defeating the Coker Cobras 58-44.

The first half was dominated by the Trojan offense, especially early, as Mount Olive charged out to a quick an 11-2 lead.   Mount Olive's passing was able to split Coker's defense and open up passing lanes that led to the Trojan's 25-18 lead going to the lockers after the first 20 minutes of play. 

The Cobras came out strong in the second half able to cut the deficit to just one point within the first five minutes of play, 28-27.  The Trojans would regain momentum afterward and push the score to a 10 point lead and eventually take home the 58-44 win.

Sophomore Jasmine Evans (Birmingham, Ala.) added 11 points to the Coker effort to join Godbout's 15 points.

Tamara Nesmith tallied a total of 19 points; junior Alyssa Luebes added another 14 points for the Trojans. Nesmith also had 12 rebounds. 

Coker drops to 5-5 in Conference Carolinas play, while Mount Olive improves 8-2 in conference.

Coker's next game is Saturday, February 4, at 2 p.m. on the road at North Greenville.

Godbout had a team high 15 points with three rebounds.

The McDonald's Player of the Game is presented by the Hartsville McDonald's and is given to the most outstanding performer during each Coker College home athletic event.
