Men's Track and Field Seeks to Continue Success at Weems Baskin Invitational

HARTSVILLE, S.C.- The Coker College men's track and field team will travel to the state capital, Columbia, S.C., to compete in the Weems Baskin Invitational, hosted by the University of South Carolina. The two-day meet takes place on Friday and Saturday (March 23-24) at the Sheila & Morris Cregger Track. Over 1,500 athletes and 40 teams will be vying for position in their respective events. 

At last week's Charleston Southern University Spring Break Invitational, the Cobras had several top-five and top-ten finishes at the two-day event.

Jacob Chebii brought home an individual title in the 5000-meter race, crossing the line in 16:14.90, the third fastest time in school history.

Kace Faulkner obliterated his previous record set in the hammer throw, throwing for a distance of 149' 7". This is now the highest mark in Coker history.

Tony McElveen Jr. made his way into the finals in the men's 100-meter dash. McElveen Jr. finished second overall in the time of 10.96 seconds, fourth fastest in Coker history.

Derrian Moreau, Sage Lilly, Jarrell Mumford, and McElveen Jr. ran the 4x100-meter event finishing fourth overall in the time of 43.20 seconds.

In the 4x400-meter event, Mahari Greene, Mumford, Will Mosley, and Moreau ran a 3:29.90 finishing sixth overall.

Kace Faulkner also brought in the second-best throw at Coker with a toss of 39' 10' in the shot put. Teammate Brandon Campbell threw a distance of 37' .5". Faulkner placed eighth overall while Campbell finished 10th.

Lilly, Mumford, and Greene all competed in the 200-meter dash. Lilly finished in third in the time of 21.8 seconds, which set a new school record. Mumford and Greene placed ninth and 10th in times of 22.29 and 22.46 seconds.

Kamiam McClain also ran in the 400-meter hurdles, claiming third place in a time of 1:02.34.
