Moreau Collects Individual Championship, Seven New Program Highs Set at SAC Championships

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.- The Coker College men's track and field team took on a day full of events at the South Atlantic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships in Winston-Salem, N.C. on Monday (Feb. 19) and competed very well. Behind seven new program records set on the day, Coker finished fifth out of 11 teams. 

Brandon Mullins, Murishi Irankunda, Razzel Kiplaget and Luke Elliott got the Cobras off on the right foot, taking second place overall in the men's distance medley, crossing the line in 10:36.44, which sets a new program record and secured eight points on the day.

Derrian Moreau, Richelieu Valery, Kamiam McClain and Zakary McGriff took on the men's 60-meter hurdles and ran away with four top-seven spots. Moreau took the top of the podium with a time of 8.48 seconds, good for second all-time in Coker history. Valery took third overall with an 8.59, sitting fifth all-time. McClain finished fifth overall in 8.63 seconds and now is seventh all-time. McGriff rounded out the four, finishing seventh in 8.82 seconds.

In the 400-meter race, Sage Lilly, Jarrel Mumford and Mahari Greene all placed inside the top-10. Lilly brought home a second place finish, crossing the line in 50.29, setting a new program record. Mumford and Greene finished eighth and ninth in times of 51.86 and 51.89, moving into second and third all-time.

Tony McElveen Jr. surpassed his own record in the 60-meter dash, finishing in 6.90 seconds, putting himself on top once again.

Brandon Mullins ran in the 800-meter, placing third overall in 1:58.74, which puts him third all-time at Coker.

Sage Lilly picked up another school record as he finished fourth overall in the 200-meter race in the time of 22.39 seconds.

Jacob Chebii competed in both the 5000-meter and 3000-meter races and secured new Coker records in each. Chebii ran a 16:22.74 in the 5000-meter and a 9:19.54 in the 3000-meter.

Lastly, a new record in the 4x400 meter relay was set by Mahari Greene, Brandon Mullins, Will Mosley and Sage Lilly, who finished third in the time of 3:25.58.

The Coker College men's track and field team will next compete at the UNCW Seahawk Invitational in Wilmington, N.C. on Friday and Saturday March 9-10. Results from the competition can be found by visiting www.cokercobras.com.
