Coker's McElveen Jr. Named to AstroTurf SAC Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week
Breaking his own school record, McElveen Jr. is rewarded for his performance
HARTSVILLE, S.C.- Coker College track and field runner Tony McElveen Jr. was named AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week, the league office announced today.
McElveen Jr., a junior from Florence, S.C., led the way for the Cobras at the JDL New Year College Kick-Off on Sunday (Jan. 7), with two second place finishes in the men's 60-meter and 200-meter race. McElveen Jr. tied his own previous, and school record in the 60-meter preliminary race with a time of 6.96, but broke it in the finals, setting the new record at 6.95.
The Navy and Gold runner also competed in the 200-meter event, placing second, running a 22.90 to finish runner-up, and good for third all-time in program history.
He is the son of Vestina and Tony McElveen. He is an exercise science major.
