Coker Women's Track and Field Opens 2017-18 Season in Historic Fashion

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.- The Coker College women's track and field team opened its indoor season at the JDL Collegiate Kick-Off Classic in historic fashion, setting five new school records on Saturday (Dec. 2) 

Noelia Leake started the Cobras on the right foot by setting a new school record in the women's 60-meter race, finishing seventh overall with a time of 7.70 seconds. Leake's time, beats her own previous record of 7.78.

Coker's senior leader Darroneshia Lott ran the 800-meter in the time of 2:11.53, placing first overall, setting a new school record.

In the 60-meter hurdle event, Kayla Ruff also broke a Coker record, placing 15th overall in the time of 9.31 seconds.

Tamara McMichael set two records as well on Saturday, one each in the shot put and weight throw events. McMichael became the program leader in the shot put with a throw of 9.84 meters and in the weight throw with a distance of 10.9 meters.

The Coker College women's track and field program's next event will be at the Art & Linda Maillet UNC Open in Chapel Hill, N.C. on Saturday Jan. 13 at 9:30 a.m.
