Coker's Fareed and Taylor Named to USTFCCCA All-Region Team

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Coker College men's track and field runners Naim Fareed and Paul Taylor II were named to the 2016 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) southeast All-Region team for the outdoor track and field season the association announced today. Both were named to the team in the 400-meter hurdles.

Fareed, a sophomore from Decatur, Ga, posted nine top-10 finishes in the 2016 outdoor season, including three top-four finishes in 400-meter hurdle events. He placed fourth in 400-meter hurdles at both the Coach O Coastal Carolina University Invitational and the Johnson C. Smith University Invitational. He won his preliminary at the South Atlantic Conference Championship meet, before coming in third in the final. His fastest time of the season was 54.41, ranking him second in the South Atlantic Conference according to the Track and Field Results Reporting System (TFRRS) performance list.

He is the son of Surayyah Fareed and is a computer science major.

Taylor posted seven top-10 finishes, including two wins in the 400-meter hurdles. His first win came at the Lenoir-Rhyne University Powersox Invitational, where he ran a time of 58.39. After finishing third in the preliminary at the South Atlantic Conference Championship, he ran his fastest time of the season in the final (54.04) and brought home the SAC Championship in the 400-meter hurdles, the first conference title in the two-year history of the Coker men's track and field program. His time of 54.04 is also atop the TFRRS South Atlantic Conference performance list.

He hails from Raleigh, N.C. and is the son of Inga Greene and Paul Taylor. He is a physical education major.
