Gambrell Leads Coker Men's Track & Field at UCS Invitational

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Cobra men's track & field team traveled to the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C. to take part in the UCS Invitational on Saturday (Feb. 21).

Brandon Gambrell led the way for the Cobras in the field events with a pair of top 10 finishes. He finished fifth in the high jump with a height of 1.95 meters and was sixth in the long jump with a distance of 6.75 meters. Cole McDowell placed in the long jump as well with a distance of 5.63 meters. McDowell also placed 10th in the triple jump with a distance of 12.85 meters.

Derrian Moreau and Brandon Campbell earned top 20 finishes in the shot put with distances of 8.15 meters and 7.32 meters, respectively.

In the running events, Gambrell, Naim Fareed, Evan Alcorn and Joshua Morris placed ninth in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:32.56. Gambrell finished 18th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.22, while Evan Alcorn and James Gregory placed 25th and 31st in the 800-meter run with times of 2:02 and 2:04, respectively.

Nick Mascardo finished with a time of 9:24 and Jacob Chebii came in at 9:27 in the 3000-meter run and Dylan Bates finished 18th in the 5000-meter run with a time of 16:31.

The Cobras will return to the track on March 6 at the Palmetto Classic in Mt. Pleasant, S.C
