Kinard Picks up First Win as Head Coach as Softball Splits With North Greenville

TIGERVILLE, S.C. - The Coker University softball team split their doubleheader with non-conference foe North Greenville University today (Feb. 9). The Cobras dropped game one 9-0 and took down the Crusaders 2-1 in game two while Marty Kinard picked up his first win as head coach. 

Game One

Despite drawing five walks the Crusaders used an offensive explosion to plate nine runs in game one, defeating Coker 9-0. 

Game Two

The Cobras would bounce right back in game two, getting on the board early in the second inning when Chloe Pelham's RBI sac-fly to center would plate Ava Jay's leadoff single, putting Coker up 1-0 early. 

In the top of the seventh Delaney Eaves RBI single to center would score Makayla Cuthbertson's double down the left-field line, putting the Cobras up 2-0.

Coker would hold North Greenville scoreless until the seventh inning when the Crusaders would hit a solo home run to try and mount a comeback. 

Callie Thornton would strike out the next two batters before the Crusader's attempt at a comeback would be cut short when they flew out to center as Coker took down North Greenville 2-1. 

Thornton would pick up her first collegiate win in the circle today. She threw a complete game and recorded six scoreless innings while only allowing four hits and striking out six. 

Coker is back in action Friday (Feb. 11) as they travel to Columbus, Georgia, facing Converse in game one of the Cougar Classic. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m. with live coverage found at www.cokercobras.com.
